Back in May 2017 I went on a tour through Ireland with Wild Rover Tours. The tour was probably my favourite day during my Dublin trip!

On May 7th (2017) I left my Airbnb in Dublin early. At 6:55 everyone who is going on the tour was expected at the bus stop. However, there was no public transport and I personally found the taxi too expensive (20 euros to the city centre), so I decided to walk the 4 km to the stop. One advantage: I was awake right away!

There are several tour companies to choose from, but I decided to go for Wild Rover Tours. Why? Because I think the website of the company looks very professional and they also have very modern buses. And that is especially nice if you spend hours on the bus. I also liked that I could go to a location in Dublin to buy my ticket. Both on the website and at the location where the tickets are sold I could choose from different tours. I chose the tour to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway City. For 45 euros (student price, 50 euros for adults) I was gone for a day. The price included the guide, entrance tickets and a tour of Galway.

First stop was the Obama Centre. Here we took a break before we continued to the first attraction: Cliffs of Moher. On the way to the Cliffs the guide told us beautiful stories about Ireland and the places we encountered along the way. I was amazed. And slowly but surely fell in love with this green country. This feeling was reinforced when I saw the Cliffs and the oh so calm Atlantic Ocean. So clear and my new favourite colour blue!

Katja is happy! 🙂

During my walk at the Cliffs I also regularly looked behind me where the beautiful countryside of Ireland lies. The words of the guide worked like a spell on me, all those beautiful stories and the rich history.

Last look at the Cliffs of Moher and hop on the bus!

We continued our journey via the Wild Atlantic Way. Two things were certain that day: Ireland showed its best side due to the beautiful weather and secondly… it was a miracle that I experienced such a calm Atlantic Ocean.

Third stop: Burren, Atlantic Edge. The first thing I shouted when I got off the bus was Harry Potter. I immediately recognized this place from the films.

On to Galway! The driver managed to drive via narrow roads to the student city that was also the setting for Ed Sheeran’s song. ‘Galway girl’ was echoing in my head the entire trip. Our guide also introduced us to Irish music on the bus. When he wasn’t talking, he put on a CD that matched where we were travelling by bus and the history he had just told us.

When I arrived in Galway City, I chose to stay with the guide and do a short city tour. It’s nice to get a lot of information about the city and the places we walked past in half an hour.

After that I had a little over an hour of free time to explore the city. At the Cliffs I got to know a Canadian girl who is currently working as an au pair in a city near Paris. Together we got a smoothie and walked through the city.

Because of the nice weather many people were sitting at the harbour, enjoying the weather, the wine and the company.

I think it’s a shame that I didn’t stay in Galway for long, so this city is definitely still on my list to visit again. The city had a nice and cosy atmosphere.

Galway was the last stop of the tour, from here we went straight back to Dublin.

It was a great and well-organised day. Amazing to hear a lot of information and stories from the guide and to see all those beautiful places at the same time! Even though I had planned 8 days in Dublin, this was ultimately my favourite day of my entire trip to Ireland. I can therefore recommend everyone to go with this tour company. Even if you are only staying a few days in Dublin, believe me you should definitely plan this tour. You will not regret it! I felt like I understood a lot of things better about the country after this day and a lot of things started to fall into place. Since I had visited museums before I went on this tour, but during the tour I could see it with my own eyes or hear the stories behind the history thanks to the guide. In addition, it was really great to be on a bus with people from all over the world.
