All the adventures I have been on in my fourth week living in Vienna.
Surprise! If you didn’t know yet, I moved to Vienna just before my birthday. Two years ago I almost emigrated for a job to Salzburg and for that reason Austria always stuck in my head. I asked myself the question: why not go on your own terms? Find an apartment, rent it and work from there. So I did, I moved to a country I have always been wondering about. To a city that leaves me speechless since it’s filled up with my biggest interests. In a wonderful time of the year when the lights are dancing through the city.
– If you haven’t seen it yet, read here about my first week in Vienna.
– Or how about when I was clubbing in a museum on a random Tuesdaynight?
– But nothing beats a night at the ballet.

Christmas Day! I was mostly just relaxing, writing, bullet journalling. Nothing big or fancy, just a chill day like I wanted.
Thursday, December 26
In The Netherlands we have two days of Christmas, but here in Vienna most things are open on this day (there is however another celebration going on depending on your religion). Two weeks before I met S during the seminar at the Korean Culture Centrum. We exchanged Insta’s so we could meet up during my time in Vienna. We both like culture, art, languages and good food, so it was no brainer for us to go do something cultural and eat afterwards. So we did. We went to Secession where we had lots of fun, especially at the contemporary art exhibitions. We spent the majority of the time exchanging thoughts or either had a good laugh.
For food we went to the vegan restaurant Tolstoy. The pizza they serve there is so fluffy with toppings full of taste. We shared our food to get a bite of the other dishes. Afterwards we went for dessert at Ichiban Tea. With bubble tea in hand we crossed the city centre, just exploring and enjoying eachothers company.

I made my way once again to Thalia at Mariahilfer Straße. There was something specific I was looking for, and honestly I adore this Thalia. Online I had seen there is a lot of hype for Manga-Mafia Store, honestly… they are so worth it! They are my favourite store when it comes down to manga and merchandise in the city. It’s just the way how they have everything put together so cleanly, organised and they also happen to sell a lot of things regarding my favourite comics. For lunch I went to Lin‘s Veggie Dumplin‘, their food is super fresh, homemade and well filled. However, I left some space for an ice cream from Gelateria La Romana. Every month they rotate with (experimental) flavours and they always make sure to include vegan flavours as well.
With my ice cream I walked in the sun under a blue sky to Alt & Neu Records. Probably the most well known record store of Vienna due to the film Before Sunrise. This movie is very well loved in Asia, especially China, Japan and Korea. Those were also the languages I heard when I went into the very crowded store. When I was standing in line I had a conversation with a Chinese guy and he told me how big the movie is in these countries and stuff related to it. Also the record store apparently blew up on socials over the last few years. Which makes sense for just way more than the movie, they have so much in stock. Though I must say, it’s mostly older works. I only found a few newer releases, mostly from lesser known artists. Perfect for people who are looking for specific records.

I was far from done seeing record stores. Firstly I went to Sissysound Record Store, which is perfect for rock, punk, alternative, pop lovers. There is a good mic of new and older releases. Mostly from the last ten years. Next stop: Recordbag Music & Fashion. Looking for a specific record of an indie, alternative, rock record? They might have it. The artists I was looking for were however too niche, even for them, nevertheless I had a fun time in the shop. For collectors it is fun to know they also sell merch, mostly fashion.
I took a small break from the record stores to go to Gerstäcker where I got some supplies to make a vision journal instead of the typical vision board. I wanted to combine lists with questionnaires and doodles, so I thought a vision journal would be the answer and I love it so far! It sure kept me busy in the days leading up to New Year’s Eve.
Last store of the day, Rave Up Records, you will find here records from all over the world mostly rock, alternative, jazz, hip-hop and house.
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, December 29, 30 and 31
Work, work and chill. And I started working in my vision journal, created a vision board on pinterest that helped me with planning the journal. I love working on these kinds of projects during the last few days of the year.
My fourth week in Vienna and I am still in awe of this adventure. But there are more adventures and stories to come. Stay tuned for next week’s blog!
