My year is all booked!
So, I haven’t done this in a very long time. For years I didn’t want to put any pressure on me and reading. I had some intense personal years that cost me to lose interest in a lot of things that used to bring me joy. One of them being reading. Actually I hit an all time low for me in 2025 when it comes down to reading. I only read 20 books privately. I did however read plenty for work, but I have never counted those to my reading goals. Just to clarify: last year I didn’t have a hard personal year. Honestly, I had a nice year with so much travel, concerts and job opportunities. Oh, and moving… that truly chipped away at my reading time.
When I started writing down my goals for this year I realised that after personal hardship and having quite a slower year in 2025, I am ready to take on new challenges. So let’s get into the goals I set for myself when it comes down to reading!
Read 50 books/comics
For the first time in years I am looking forward to reading so many books! It was incredibly painful how I had such a disinterest in reading and books in general. Honestly, if it wasn’t for work I wouldn’t have read much at all. For 2026 I simply can’t wait to read lots again, but I do have to be realistic. I am planning on travelling a lot in the second half of the year. I wanted the number that I would set to reflect that. So for now, I think reading 50 books/comics would be perfect.
Read at least 5 books in German
There are other goals I want to work on while setting my reading goals, and those are my language goals! Soon I will go more in depth about those goals in another blog. But in short, I want to work on my language skills and reading helps me tremendously to get me to certain goals.
German is my third language and I can already read at C1 level! So yeah, I just pick up a book and enjoy them. But I want to make sure that I at least read 5 this year. And in this case comics won’t count. Just because I want to push myself with my abilities in that language.
Read a book in Korean
This will be most likely a children’s book or a simple manhwa (Korean comic) since my language skills in Korean aren’t that high. I am at level 2 with grammar and stuff like that, but with understanding I think I am actually a little higher. However I have no idea where my reading skills are at, so I am eager to find that out and who knows I might level up during the year.
Read a book in French
My overall skills in French are at A2 level. With reading I am not sure where I stand, since my knowledge in this language is quite scattered. I am planning to test my reading skills before I pick up a book. But I hope I will be able to read something between B1 and B2 level.
Read at least 5 philosophy books
In the past I studied Applied Philosophy at uni, which I adored, and I miss studying rich texts, exploring thoughts and forming my own ones based on what I just read. I have some unread books and also old books I used for school that I would like to read. I want to curate my collection, drop books that don’t align or simply don’t give me the insights I hoped for.
All these goals are very me and stand for the year I want to lead in 2026. I want to study, learn in fun ways and be whimsical with the other books. While I am writing this blog I already had a good start with my reading goals and for some reason I started with very big books. It feels almost like my interest in books never left me.
What are your reading goals for 2026?
Love,
