Language Goals 2026 | Study Update #1
My study plan for French ’26

What is my language goal for this year?
French – B1

Why do I study the language?
– Because I already have a basic knowledge of the language and would like to expand it.
– Once I expand it to a level I feel comfortable with, I want to language stack. Learn Italian with French.

Where was I at the beginning of this year?
Last year in May I officially tested for A2. Over the rest of the year I kept on expanding my vocabulary. Mostly by focusing on A1, A2 and some B1 level words. For this year I want to keep on building since I am foreseeing a trip to Paris to meet a friend, so I will also need to brush up on my speaking skills and other skills needed. It is my plan to get my reading, understanding and speaking skills to a B1 level.

I want to do this by reading French books/texts, expanding my vocabulary and practicing speech. My trip to Paris is planned for autumn so I have time, but that doesn’t mean I am going to slack off. It is too beautiful of a language to not give it my all.

Which goals did I set for the first quarter?
My goals for Q1:
– Expanding my vocabulary.
– Practice conversations.
– Develop my understanding skills.
– Join a French language study community.

Did those goals from the last quarter work out?
I expanded my vocab and practised conversations. But I noticed soon that my other goals took a backseat since I had to up my game with German due to my business trip.

Where am I now?
The language I have done the least in is French. Whenever I had a bit more time on my hands I dived deep into expanding my vocabulary. And that was honestly all I was able to do. However, I did do some research on books I could read and I am exploring if I want to join a French language study community. But I really want to see first what my time left over looks like when I am settled in. I felt home quickly after the move, but it takes time to build new habits at a new place. And French doesn’t have my focus in comparison to German and Korean.

But I am planning on travelling to France later this year. So I am going to be practical about it. I want to plan my studies now around everything I might need during that trip and will see from there what is going to be next.

How am I going to continue studying the language?
My goals for Q2:
– Expanding my vocabulary.
– Practice conversations.
– Study things I might need during my upcoming trip.
– Join a French language study community or find a good study book.

Love,
