My 2026 polyglot language goals
Language Goals 2026 | Study Update #1
My study plan for Korean ’26
What is my language goal for this year?
Korean – Level 4
Why do I study the language?
– Because I like the language, so just for fun. There’s no pressure.
– To be able to understand the music right away without having to look at translations.
– Not needing subtitles for K-dramas and shows I follow on YouTube.
– For the future, if I ever have the chance to travel around Korea.
Where was I at the beginning of this year?
A huge chunk of the basic stuff I already have a grasp on, besides that I am incredibly happy that I understand more and more when watching a K-drama. Like I said in other language updates: I can even hear when watching a show if the translation is correct or not, or when the nuance doesn’t exist in English.
Of course there is still room for lots of improvement! Currently I am at level 2, but before the end of the year I want to get to level 4. I am taking classes with Talk To Me In Korean and I will shadow the language as much as I possibly can.
Which goals did I set for the first quarter?
My goals for Q1:
– Expanding my vocabulary.
– Practice beginner conversations.
– Finish Talk To Me In Korean level 2.
Did those goals from the last quarter work out?
A bit. I wasn’t able to finish level 2. Nevertheless, I did put in some work. I got up to the midway point of level 2. During those classes I expanded my vocab and practised beginner conversations.
Where am I now?
I had hoped to complete level 2 by the end of the quarter. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do so. The lessons are getting more intense which I hadn’t completely anticipated and I also hadn’t the capacity to study a lot. With everything going on in my life I am even surprised I managed to get halfway level 2. For the next quarter I want to level up my game. I know now for the most part how my weeks look like. I think it would be possible for me to complete level 2 and get midway level 3. I really hope so at least, because in July I will do some Korean speaking activities and it would be amazing if I understand a bit more than just the basics.
That being said, I have noticed that with the little shadowing I have been able to do, that my understanding skills have been going well. I understand quite a bit, maybe not the details, but I do understand sentence structures and how it’s being used in specific situations very well.
How am I going to continue studying the language?
My goals for Q2:
– Expanding my vocabulary.
– Practice beginner conversations.
– Finish Talk To Me In Korean level 2.
– Start Talk To Me In Korean level 3.
– Shadow more.
Love,
