Vegan Cafes and Restaurants in Vienna

Vienna, a city I would like to visit more often for many things but also their food and drinks!

Here is the thing, I lived in Vienna in the winter of 2024 – 2025. Meaning: I had my own apartment with my own kitchen. I didn’t go out as much for food and if I did it was mostly at Christmas markets, because well… it was that time of the year. Oh, and I also painfully found out when writing this blogpost that some places are now permanently closed. So my list is not as long as it normally would have been. But these are for sure one of my favourite places where I liked to eat during my time spent in Austria and mostly you could find me multiple times at the same place since it is just that good!

Next time I want to try out other restaurants and cafés so I can grow my list of must visit vegan hotspots in Vienna. But for now, please enjoy my short list of places I enjoyed and some honourable mentions of places that might not be (fully) vegan, but they are for sure very well suited for our vegetarians.

GOTA Coffee experts
Vienna is known for the coffeehouses, they even have some of the best in the world! I knew someone living in Vienna and I sent her a message asking if she would be interested to grab a coffee. As a true Austrian she decided she should show me one of the best places to do so. We met up for brunch at GOTA, one of the most awarded hip coffee houses in Vienna. Seriously, their coffee tastes what you would think a cloud tastes like, all fluffy without a bitter aftertaste. Their food is also outstanding, so getting a brunch at this place is for sure the way to go. Please make a reservation if you want to go to this place, because this coffee house is not exactly a hidden gem, and you will have to wait in a long line if you don’t make any arrangements.

Swing Kitchen
A brand with a long history that turned vegan when the new owner couldn’t bear to slaughter animals himself. Swing Kitchen was born in Vienna, but over the last few years the brand grew and has multiple places in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
This vegan junk food place serves amazing burgers and fries. I love the Vienna burger that is filled with so many fresh greens and has a delicious sauce. I also still dream about the sweet fries, they are sweet, soft and salty at the same time. Yup, I can still taste it!

Wolke
During certain times of the day they serve a delicious elaborate brunch with lots of different kinds of food and fruit. At other times they serve pizza with many different tastes, from fruity to filled with greens. They love to experiment with flavours and even colours. Dare to eat a purple pizza? The homemade lemonades made it an even better experience. I couldn’t recommend it more to go here for pizza and brunch!

Gelateria La Romana
In need of an Italian gelato fix? Gelateria La Romana has been around for a long time. Every month they rotate with (experimental) flavours and they always make sure to include vegan flavours as well. Since I lived here multiple months I had the chance to try out multiple kinds of gelato and I loved it each time.

Honourable mentions

PARÉMI Boulangerie
When I lived in Vienna it was at the height of the pistache croissant popularity. Of course I had to try one, especially since contrary to popular belief, the croissant is not a French but an Austrian invention!
PARÉMI Boulangerie is one of the most beautiful bakeries in Vienna. The indoor and outdoor seating area makes you believe you’re living in a fairytale. Their croissants are super buttery and flaky, and worth the price tag.
There was a long line when I got there, it was for the café, but if you just come for the bakery you can most of the time immediately order. The sun was shining so I decided to get my croissant and sit outside (there was no service at the terrace cause it was the middle of December). Two other women followed my lead and together we had an amazing lunch while talking about travelling.

Zuckerlwerkstatt
I don’t have a sweet tooth but even I love this candy store, I mean it is one of the best ones in the world (according to the New York Times). It did not disappoint! The candy is amazing and not too sweet. I bought myself two lollipops in the flavours cherry and passionfruit, they were delicious and I can’t wait to go back one day.

Love,
