Coffee and books are the perfect combination in my opinion, so it’s time for a matching tag!
The Coffee Book Tag was officially created by BangadyBangz on YouTube, and has since been adopted by several bloggers and other YouTubers. Since I love coffee and reading in a coffee shop is one of my favorite things to do, this seems like the perfect tag to fill out!
1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.
Yes, I am a huge fan of the entire Grishaverse myself, but I also realise that the series is not easy to get into. The first trilogy, Shadow and Bone, and at the same time the first series within the world is not always an easy read. Sometimes you can’t stand the main character and other times there is something else going on. Still, I immediately found the entire Grishaverse special. Especially Six of Crows since the crows are my favourite characters from this fictional world.
2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.
Anything with Christmas as one of the themes? But when it comes to my taste, it’s usually fantasy and literary books. In winter I love to sit for hours with a book and those two genres are perfect for that! I don’t usually reread books, so I don’t have a title that I can name. But books that I have reread multiple times during the winter are the Grishaverse and the Gemstone trilogy by Kerstin Gier.
3. Hot chocolate: What is your favourite children’s book?
I’ve always read a lot, but to be honest for a long time I wasn’t really aware of the books I read. I just read the books I found in the library that sounded nice. The first book that I really loved and that immediately stuck with me was Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier.
4. Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn.
5. [Insert a famous coffee chain]: Name a book you see everywhere.
Is it just me or are the trends less visible unless you’re on booktok? And uhm… I’m not really on that. I do see a lot about Ali Hazelwood’s books and I liked her book Bride.
6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shoutout.
Oh, as someone who has a background in the publishing world, I’m quite critical when it comes to this question. Because usually you quickly notice why a certain author isn’t traditionally published.
But if I take this question a little differently: an author who deserves a lot more readers. Then I say June Hur. Her research, historical knowledge and descriptions are next level.
7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.
Mary by Anne Eekhout.
At first I thought it was a very strong book, but then I had a lot of trouble with the story. I even ended up in a reading slump twice because of this book, but I couldn’t get through either time.
8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book like this, but I think I’ll go with Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo.
